Town of New Hartford Commits to Clean Energy

The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) today announced that the town of New Hartford, Conn., has joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Program by committing to purchase at least 20% of its electricity for municipal facilities from clean, renewable energy sources by the year 2010. New Hartford's Board of Selectmen approved a resolution declaring the town's commitment, enabling it to join 86 other Connecticut municipalities that have made a commitment to a cleaner environment and greater energy independence.

Glastonbury Unveils Solar Electric System Awarded Under the Connecticut Clean Energy

Glastonbury High School was the site of a ribbon-cutting ceremony held today to unveil a 4-kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system earned by the town of Glastonbury and installed at Glastonbury High School. The solar array was provided by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) through its Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Program and installed by PV Squared of New Britain.

Masdar to Invest in London Array

One fifth of the flagship 1 GW London Array offshore wind farm, planned for the Thames Estuary, is to be sold to Abu Dhabi's renewable energy initiative Masdar. Under the terms of a deal with Germany's E.ON, which owns 50% of the total stake, the companies are to form a joint venture partnership to develop the project.

More State, County, City Governments Expected to Offer Residential Financing

Government-sponsored residential solar lease or loan programs are expected to proliferate now that the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) has launched its lease program and that Berkeley has secured a financing partner for its pilot loan program, industry specialists suggest. These programs can be funded in multiple ways, including bonds, rate-payer funds, or other financial mechanisms combined with private-equity financier funds from those with enough tax liability to take take advantage of the tax credits generated by from the projects.

Tioga Energy Develops Solar System for California Hospital

Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital announced it will become the first healthcare facility within the Sutter Health system to install a solar power system. Sutter Auburn Faith has made plans to install a 736-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system that will meet about 50 percent of the hospital's power needs.

SolarWorld Opens 500-MW Solar Cell Manufacturing Facility

SolarWorld has opened one of North America's largest solar cell manufacturing facilities. The new plant is located in Hillsboro, Oregon and is expected to reach a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) by 2011.

OwnEnergy Completes Financing Round

OwnEnergy Inc., a company that enables landowners to develop and own wind farms on their land, has completed its Series A round of financing. EnerTech Capital Partners led the round, with Contour Venture Partners and the New York City Investment Fund adding to their existing commitments to the company. The amount of financing completed was not made public.
